Justin is Head of our Restructuring and Insolvency team. He advises many of the firm’s major clients comprising banks, financial institutions, listed corporations and major commercial landlords and real estate investment trusts (REITs).

His experience extends to acting for liquidators, judicial managers, receivers and managers, accounting firms, creditors, companies and shareholders on corporate and individual insolvency and restructuring exercises in Singapore. He also acts for property developers, management corporations, management councils and managing agents of residential, commercial and industrial properties in Singapore on matters involving the Land Titles Act, Land Titles (Strata) Act and Building Maintenance and Strata Management Act, including legal proceedings brought in the Courts and the Strata Titles Boards.

Justin’s work also covers construction, engineering and infrastructure projects. He has extensive experience in construction-related dispute resolution and advisory work, including experience as counsel in arbitrations, as well as adjudication and court proceedings, involving construction of residential, commercial and industrial properties and developments in Singapore.

One of his prominent cases includes having acted for a number of minority subsidiary proprietors who objected to the SG$500 million collective sale of the condominium development, Horizon Towers. The Singapore Court of Appeal reversed the earlier decisions of the Strata Titles Board and the Singapore High Court and allowed the appeal by the minority represented by the Firm. This landmark decision not only marks the first time that the Court of Appeal has decided in favour of minority owners in a disputed en bloc sale in Singapore, but also set out the extent of the duties of a sales committee and the responsibility of the Strata Titles Board in an en-bloc transaction.

Justin is a member of The Law Society of Singapore and a Fellow of Singapore Institute of Arbitrators. He is called to the Bar of Brunei Darussalam and has practised there. He is also gazetted as counsel to appear on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Singapore in civil proceedings for claims relating to State land.

Justin is a contributor to both the 2006 and 2013 editions of the “Singapore Civil Procedure”, or “the White Book” as it is more affectionately known. He has also contributed to legal articles in newspapers and magazines such as the Singapore Law Gazette.
