Eversheds Harry Elias is proud that its Partner, Shaun Leong, is appointed onto the Panel of Arbitrators of premier Chinese and Indian International Arbitration Centres.
Shaun is a Panel Arbitrator of the BeiHai Asia International Arbitration Centre (BAIAC), 北海亚洲国际仲裁中心. The BAIAC Singapore is established by China’s Beihai Arbitration Commission. This is the first-ever establishment of an international arbitration centre in Singapore by a Chinese arbitration commission. The Commission has centres in 29 Chinese cities, including technology hub Shenzhen, Belt & Road pivots Xi’an and Urumqi, as well as Guangzhou, Beijing, and Shanghai.
In 2018, the Beihai Arbitration Commission recorded over 58,000 cases and for the first half of this year, recorded over 47,000 cases in China.
Singapore’s position as an international dispute resolution hub is well placed to serve the region for disputes arising from the Belt and Road Initiative, Asia trade cooperation, and investments between Chinese and ASEAN parties.
In addition, in recognition of his work on cross border technology disputes, Shaun is appointed an Arbitrator with the Bangalore International Mediation, Arbitration and Conciliation Centre. Bangalore, styled “Silicon Valley of South Asia”, is India’s focal point for technology and innovation, and houses several major global technology companies.
Singapore’s Minister of Trade Relations launched the Global Innovation Alliance in Bangalore earlier this year ago to reinforce the partnership between Indian and Singaporean enterprises.
