Harry Elias Partnership represents husband in an acrimonious custody dispute where Singapore Judgment is upheld in The United States

Nov 1, 2014

Harry Elias Partnership LLP’s Co-head of Family & Matrimonial Law Practice, Mr Koh Tien Hua succeeded in getting a Singapore Judgment upheld in the United States.

New York State Supreme Court Acting Justice, Richard Dollinger had found an American woman guilty of contempt of court for disobeying her Singapore court order by interfering with her ex-husband’s access to their two children.

Mr Koh Tien Hua who acts for the ex-husband, had previously secured a judgment that allowed his client “liberal and unsupervised” access to his children.

The woman had sought the New York court to discard the Singapore court’s divorce judgment but the lack of supporting evidence discredited her claims and she was also found to have prevented her children to travel to Singapore, disallowing overnight stays with their father and refused him access to their children without her presence.

The court ordered the Singapore judgment to be registered in New York as sought by the husband and found her guilty of contempt of court, for disobeying the Singapore court order by interfering with the father’s access.

The case was reported in The Straits Times on 1 November 2014.
