Court rejects school’s bid to seal case file over girl’s alleged sexual assault
A court registrar refused a school’s bid to seal a case file or hold in-camera proceedings for a negligence lawsuit by parents of a seven-year-old girl allegedly assaulted by a male classmate, ruling that a gag order on the names of the two children and all identifiers, including the school’s name, would suffice.
A sealing order, if granted, means the public will be refused permission to inspect or copy the court documents that have been filed.
Below is an excerpt from the article which highlights the involvement of Chau Yee and Yee Keong:
“The girl’s parents, through Eversheds Harry Elias lawyers Tan Chau Yee and Kok Yee Keong, opposed the applications and countered that redacting the names of the children from the record of proceedings would suffice and offered to assist in this way.”
