The Singapore Mediation Lecture 2015 held on 29 October at the Mochtar Riady Auditorium was proudly hosted by Harry Elias Partnership LLP and Singapore Mediation Centre, in collaboration with the Singapore Management University (SMU).
The Singapore Mediation Lecture series aims to enhance the understanding and use of mediation in resolving cross-border commercial disputes.
Dr Hans Peter Frick gave the keynote address entitled “Embracing a Mediation Culture: How Your Company Benefits” where he shared his experience as former Chief Legal Officer of Nestlé SA, a renowned Nutrition, Health and Wellness Company, including why he got involved in mediation and how mediation benefitted this multinational corporation as well as himself as the Executive in-charge of legal matters. He explained how conflict prevention and resolution became an integral part of Nestlé’s business model and how management and more than 400 in-house lawyers worldwide were influenced to buy into this new approach. He also addressed strategies to work with external lawyers in the area of Alternative Dispute Resolution.
This was followed by a Panel Discussion. The panellists were the distinguished speaker, Dr Hans Peter Frick together with Mr Wong Taur Juin, President, Singapore Corporate Counsel Association, Mr Francis Goh, Partner of Harry Elias Partnership LLP and a Principal Mediator with the Singapore Mediation Centre, was the Moderator.
